Serious assault charge at Rochedale, QLD

A man has been charged following an alleged altercation on the side of a busy highway in Rochedale yesterday afternoon, Queensland Police say.

It will be alleged at around 5pm a minor traffic crash occurred outbound on the Pacific Motorway near Juliette Street between two vehicles before one of the cars sped away.

The vehicles both continued in the same direction before the occupants of the car that was struck, a 68-year-old woman and a 61-year-old man, saw the other car allegedly involved pulled over on the side of the motorway at Rochedale.

The man and woman exited their car to take photographs of the other vehicle when the alleged driver, a 40-year-old man, became abusive and assaulted the pair by kicking and attempting to bite them.

The man then fled the scene however was arrested a short time later in Rochedale South after allegedly attempting to break in to a vehicle on Algona Street.

A 40-year-old Victoria Point man has been charged with two counts of serious assault person over 60, enter premises with intent to commit indictable offence and one count of attempted robbery.

He is due to appear in Beenleigh Magistrates Court today (October 26).
