Serious assault police charge in Cairns, QLD

A woman has been charged after a police officer was injured in Cairns this afternoon, Queensland Police say.

Officers were at an address on Digger Street in Cairns North at 5pm this afternoon conducting a routine enquiry at a unit.

As officers were speaking to a woman at the address, it will be alleged that she produced a blade and as a male police officer attempted to take it from her, he sustained a laceration to wrist from the blade.

It will be further alleged that he woman continued to obstruct police and had to be tasered before being taken into custody.

The officer was transported to Cairns Hospital for treatment and his injures are non-life threatening.

The woman was treated at the scene and was conveyed to the watchhouse.

A 23-year-old Cairns woman has been charged with one count of serious assault police whilst armed and obstruct police and is ue to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow.
