Serious assault police officer at Gold Coast

A 31-year-old man has been charged over the alleged serious assault of a Queensland police officer following an incident in Coomera.

Shortly before 6pm on Friday (July 22), police attended an address along Amy Drive, in relation to alleged drug offences.

Upon arrival, it will be alleged the man became aggressive and punched an officer in the face, knocking him unconscious.

The officer, a 34-year-old male Detective Senior Constable, fell to the floor, hitting his head on the tiles.

He was taken to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a stable condition, where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

A 31-year-old Coomera man has been charged with one count of serious assault police officer and has been remanded in custody to appear at Southport Magistrates Court on Monday July 25.

Investigations are continuing.
