Serious assault police, South Brisbane

Two women have been charged following an incident in South Brisbane last night which left a police officer with facial injuries.

At 8.30pm, officers were conducting routine liquor patrols in parklands off Little Stanley Street.

A female police officer attempted to speak with the two women who were allegedly drinking in a public place when one of the women obstructed the officer while the second woman allegedly punched the officer in the face.

The 33-year-old senior constable was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment to facial injuries including a laceration, swelling and bruising to her nose, head eye and cheek.

The two women were arrested with the assistance of additional police nearby.

A 24-year-old Woodridge woman and a 24-year-old Forest Lake woman are each charged with one count of serious assault police and serious assault police causing bodily harm.

They will both appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court today.
