Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash on Reid Road, Ruatoki, Whakatane.
Police were called at 2.55pm.
Initial indications are one person has received critical injuries.
The road is closed and a helicopter has been dispatched.
Motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
