Serious incident at Christies Beach

A man has been arrested after a serious assault on a member of the public and police at Christies Beach yesterday afternoon.

About 4.40pm Tuesday 23 January the victim was in his car at the corner of Roy Terrace and Gulfview Road when he was approached by a group of people, one of the people was holding a scooter. The man with the scooter allegedly threw it at the victim's vehicle smashing the driver's side window.

The victim, a 63-year-old Morphett Vale man, got out of his car and was assaulted by the man with the scooter. The victim received serious injuries and was conveyed to hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A short time later police located the group on Christies Beach. Here police attempted to arrest the man with the scooter who violently resisted. After a struggle, police were able to apprehend the 24-year-old, however both police officers were assaulted, one of the police officers received serious but non-life threatening injuries.

The Morphettville man has been charged with property damage, aggravated assault cause harm, disorderly behaviour, two counts of assault emergency worker and other outstanding offences. He was refused bail and will appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today.

A 22-year-old Morphettville woman who was part of the group was arrested for disorderly behaviour and hinder police. She was bailed to appear at the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 26 February.

The male officer was taken to hospital where he was treated. The female officer was treated at the scene.
