Services Australia accredited as breastfeeding friendly workplace

Department of Human Services

It's World Breastfeeding Awareness Week, and we're pleased to share we've been accredited as a Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace (BFW) for the third year in a row.

The Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA) gives this accreditation to organisations that give staff the space, time and support they need to breastfeed or express in the workplace.

Chief Operating Officer, Annette Musolino is one of our gender equality champions, and says the accreditation shows our continued commitment to leading the way as an equitable and flexible workplace.

"The ABA accreditation is just one way we support staff to balance work and family commitments," Annette said.

"Together with agency policies designed to support families, we're able to retain the skills, talent and experience of women in our organisation."

One of those women is Corporate Support Officer, Kristy Michelson.

When Kristy returned from maternity leave she used our carers' room facilities for lactation breaks.

"The availability of the facilities ensured I could continue breastfeeding after I'd returned to work, which was important to me," Kristy said.

"As my children have grown, flexible work arrangements have enabled me to continue to balance work and family with no issues."

We aim to create a workplace culture where people feel safe and supported, and our most recent BFW accreditation is just one way we're doing that.
