The severe storm that lashed the Mornington Peninsula on Friday 29 October has caused significant tree and property damage across the Shire, including at our campgrounds.
Based on our initial assessments of the Sorrento, Rye, Rosebud and McCrae camping areas, the camping season opening will be delayed by up to eight weeks in some sections.
With the high volume of calls from residents requiring assistance for storm damage to their homes, our tree crews and support staff have an enormous workload to get through, including our four main camping areas.
Campers who have made bookings from the season opening on 5 November have been notified of the delay.
We will continue to regularly update all campers as we work towards re-opening the campgrounds after we've completed clean-up works, repaired damaged infrastructure and done the necessary tree safety inspections.
Our teams are working extremely hard to have all the campgrounds reopened ready for the start of the peak camping season on 18 December, with campgrounds to be reopened on a staggered basis as soon as possible, once declared safe.
