Sewerage main failure in Pallarenda

Townsville City Council is investigating the failure of a pressurised sewerage main in Pallarenda yesterday that caused a spill of untreated sewage.

Council crews responded quickly to the incident, isolating the pump station that feeds the main, which is built adjacent to the bridge that crosses Three Mile Creek, and commencing the clean-up and repair.

The sewage that spilled from the main was contained predominantly within the creek, which Council believes has limited any environmental impact, due to dilution and tidal influence.

A structural engineer was engaged by Council to advise on repairing the main. Repairs were completed last night, allowing pumping to resume.

As required, the incident has been reported to the Department of Environment and Science.
