Sexual assault charges laid against military member in Kingston, ON

December 13, 2018 – Ottawa – National Defence/Canadian Armed Forces
Yesterday, the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service charged a member of the Canadian Armed Forces with sexual assault under the Criminal Code. The charge relate to reported incident in April 2018 at Royal Military College in Kingston, ON, involving another member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Officer-Cadet Tyler Johnston, a cadet at RMC Kingston, ON, faces the following charge.
- One (1) count of Sexual Assault under section 271 of the Criminal Code.
The matter is now proceeding in civilian Justice System. The accused first appearance at Kingston Court House, in Kingston, ON, will be on January 29, 2019.
"The Canadian Forces Military Police seek to investigate and where appropriate lay charges based on factual evidence regardless of location in Canada or abroad.
"A majority of Canadian Forces National Investigation Service investigations revolve around sexually based offences. The Sexual Offence Response Team provides a nucleus of expertise regarding historical investigative techniques; new trends in law enforcement concerning sexually based offences; and best practices for future investigations. "
