Sexual Assault Investigation Appeal At Mount Isa

Detectives from the Mount Isa Criminal Investigation Branch are appealing for information after a 45-year-old man was charged with several serious offences including rape and kidnapping following an alleged incident on 26 January.

Officers allege the man committed the offences against 43-year-old woman near Moondarra Drive, with the woman having to then walk back to Mount Isa to seek assistance.

Following investigations, the man was arrested and charged on 27 January with two counts each of rape, kidnapping, and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, possessing child exploitation material.

The man is due to reappear in Mount Isa Magistrates Court on 16 March.

As part of ongoing investigations, investigators are particularly keen to speak with witnesses who may have seen or provided a lift to a First Nations woman walking along the Barkly Highway near the Lake Moondarra turn-off at any time during January 2026.
