Sharing our public spaces

Bayside's wonderful open spaces are used by our community in a variety of ways, with sports clubs, schools and dog walkers all in the mix.

As seasonal changeover occurs at our sports grounds, we're educating dog owners about the rules on the off-leash grounds through increased patrols and engaging with sports clubs about issues they face.

Patrols will talk to dog walkers about off-leash areas, etiquette and responsible behaviour - particularly picking up their dog's poop and ensuring dogs are on leash within 20m of an organised sporting event or training. Fines may be issued for non-compliance.

Dog owners must also always carry a leash and ensure their dog remains under constant supervision and effective control (with voice or hand commands). A distracted dog owner or uncontrolled dog can be a serious risk to others using the grounds. As a responsible dog owner, it's your responsibility to follow the rules and prevent unwanted interactions between your pooch and other people and dogs.

Plan your visits

We have published a seasonal schedule to help dog walkers plan their visits to off-leash sportsgrounds around training and game times.

Pet owners can also check out our interactive map to find out where to walk your dog on and off leash throughout Bayside and what your rights and responsibilities are.

The rules for sharing open space are there to protect everyone's safety when exercising, including our pets and we urge dog owners and our sports community to work together and respect each other so everyone can safely enjoy Bayside's beautiful shared open spaces.
