Mornington Peninsula Shire has begun work on a major rejuvenation of Crib Point Recreation Reserve including upgrading the changerooms and a complete reconstruction of the oval.
The Shire is investing close to $3m to provide our local teams with new high quality, compliant and accessible changerooms and new playing surface, drainage and irrigation.
Shire Mayor David Gill said the project is part of Council's Sports Capacity Plan, which responds to the rapid increase in sport participation in recent years, particularly female and junior involvement in field-based sports.
"Through Council's Sports Capacity Plan and projects such as the upgrades at Crib Point Rec Reserve, we're making improvements to our sporting facilities where it's needed most on the Peninsula.
"We're working to close the gap in local sporting facilities and provide inclusive, accessible and functional community assets", concluded Cr Gill.
The Crib Point Recreation Reserve sports oval will be completely redeveloped with a new playing surface, drainage and irrigation.
Cerberus Ward Councillor Kate Roper said redevelopment of the oval is a high priority for the Shire as the ground surface has deteriorated significantly in recent years compromising the use of the facility.
"Upgrading Crib Point Rec Reserve will increase the capacity of the oval giving the women's team a home base for training and competition.
"The new oval will also open the reserve to additional programming opportunities and make it easier for everyone to get involved in local sport on the Peninsula", concluded Cr Roper.
A full reconstruction of the oval is required to create a high quality, accessible and well-designed football oval that is safe to use and complies with AFL Preferred Facility Guidelines.
Construction works are due to commence in September 2019 and be completed by April 2020.
Later this year, the Pavilion changerooms will also be upgraded proving better quality and more accessible facilities for the Crib Point Football Netball and Cricket Clubs.
The project will provide new home and away change facilities with associated amenities, storage, medical room and umpires changerooms for the reserve.
This project will allow the Crib Point Football Netball Club to cater for increased demand, provide facilities for our female football participants and provide compliant change rooms to Australian standards.
This project is funded by Mornington Peninsula Shire's Capital Works program:
