Shire welcomes nine new citizens

Central Goldfields Shire welcomed nine new Australian citizens from seven countries during a citizenship ceremony on Friday.

The new citizens include:

  • Laura Baker (England)
  • Anh Jim Thi Do (Vietnam)
  • Khoa Anh Do (Vietnam)
  • John Heares (New Zealand)
  • Yinhai Jiang (China)
  • Timothy Wear (United Kingdom)
  • Seng Marady NGIM (Cambodia)
  • Sinith SOM (Cambodia)
  • Seng Maraden NGIM (Cambodia)

Central Goldfields Shire Mayor Cr Chris Meddows-Taylor, who hosted Friday's ceremony, welcomed Australia's newest citizens.

"I would like to say a big welcome and congratulations to our nine newest citizens. Being an Australian citizen is a privilege and it is a common bond uniting all Australians, whether you are an Australian by birth or choice.

"We live in a diverse and multicultural nation and our new citizens will enrich both our nation and our community.

"Welcoming new citizens is an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the significance and importance of being an Australian citizen and the rights, privileges and responsibilities we get to enjoy because of this."
