Shooting Incidents, Mackay Northern Beaches

Police have charged four people following investigations into two shooting incidents that occurred in the Mackay Northern Beaches area on 8 July.

Around 2.10am on 8 July, police were called to reports of shots fired outside an Andergrove Road licensed premises in Andergrove.

It will be alleged four people drove to the premises before firing several shots at an unoccupied vehicle.

On 9 July, police executed a search warrant at a Bucasia address and seized seven stolen firearms, including three pistols and four rifles.

A 25-year-old South Mackay man was charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possession of weapons, and authority required to possess explosives.

A 26-year-old Beaconsfield man was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically, unlawful possession of weapons, authority required to possess explosives, and possess tainted property.

Both are due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court today, 10 July.

A 19-year-old North Mackay woman was charged with two counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and one count each of possessing dangerous drugs, and unlawful possession of weapons.

A 31-year-old North Mackay man was charged with two counts each of possessing dangerous drugs, and possessing utensils, and one count each of unlawful possession of weapons, producing dangerous drugs, possessing property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, and authority required to possess explosives.

Both are due to appear before Mackay Magistrates Court on 27 July.

Police are continuing to investigate a separate incident that occurred around 2.40am on 8 July, after residents reported gunshots being fired at a Denman Avenue address in Shoal Point.

Police conducted patrols of the area, but were unable to locate the unknown offender, and a short time later a crime scene was declared at the property.

The occupants of the residence were not physically injured.

Investigations are ongoing into this incident and any links to the first shooting. It is not believed there is any ongoing threat to the general public.
