Shot fired during robbery, NSW

Police are investigating after a shot was fired during a robbery on the Central Coast early this morning, NSW Police say.

About 2.15am today, two teenage girls, aged 19 and 17, were parked on Peel Street, Toukley, outside the marina.

A silver car pulled up nearby and the teens were approached by a man wearing a balaclava.

The man demanded the car keys whilst holding a firearm, then fired the gun into the water nearby.

The 19-year-old girl handed over the keys and both teens got out.

The man left in the white BMW, followed by the silver car, described as a four-door sedan.

The girls were not injured and police were notified.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

The man has been described as being approximately 175cm tall, and of a slim build. At the time he was wearing black clothing and a balaclava.

About 10am today, the white BMW ran off the road at The Corso, Charmhaven, and caught fire. A man was seen running from the vehicle.

Officers from Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command attended and established a crime scene.

A 26-year-old man was arrested nearby and taken to Wyong Police Station where he is assisting police with their inquiries.

As investigations into the robbery continue, police are urging any witnesses or anyone with information in relation to this incident to come forward.
