Shots fired at car in Melton

Armed Crime Squad detectives are investigating a shooting that has left a man with serious injuries in Melton early this morning, Victoria Police say.

Police have been told a man and woman were travelling in their red Mitsubishi Mirage sedan when a number of shots were fired into the car about 12.40am.

They managed to pull over at a nearby service station on the Melton Highway and called triple zero.

The driver, a 42-year-old Creswick man, was taken to hospital where he remains with serious facial injuries.

His female passenger, aged 21 was not injured.

Detectives are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are yet to establish the exact location of the shooting.

Police are keen to speak to any witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
