Campaspe Shire Council is proud to support Girgarre's annual Showdown at the Soundshell as it returns for its fourth year, bringing together talented young musicians across the region for the chance to show off their skills and have fun at the Gargarro Botanic Gardens. Starting at 12pm on Sunday, 29 March, this all-ages, family-friendly event will showcase young performers while the crowd enjoys great food and live entertainment.
Young performers aged 12-18 are encouraged to apply for the chance to take the stage and compete. Participants will be in the running for a range of exciting prizes, including $1,000 for the top performer, awards for second and third place, Best Instrumentalist, Best Young Artist, and a Born n' Bred studio recording session.
A panel of judges with strong music backgrounds will provide feedback and select the winners, offering an exciting opportunity for young musicians to gain recognition and experience performing live.
Campaspe Shire Mayor, Cr Daniel Mackrell, emphasised the importance of these events for budding musicians in regional areas.
"Showdown at the Soundshell provides an invaluable opportunity to perform for an audience of local community members and receive feedback from fellow musicians.
"For young musicians in regional areas, it not only helps to build their confidence, but is also a chance to connect and share their passion with other young musicians," Cr Mackrell said.
The event is proudly presented in partnership with the Girgarre Development Group, Gargarro Botanic Gardens and Campaspe Shire Council, with additional support from Born n' Bred Australian Red Dirt and funding through the Victorian State Government's Amplify Program. Food trucks and a free community BBQ will be on site, making it a perfect day out for families and music lovers.
"Our community always turns out in support of local youth, and this event is a great opportunity for families to enjoy the music in a welcoming community atmosphere.
"I encourage young performers to put their hand up and apply, and I invite the whole community to come along and support this vibrant showcase of local talent," the mayor added.
