Elsewhere, a very large high-pressure system over Western Australia will bring cooler and showery conditions through Tasmania, Victoria, and southern South Australia. This system will also drive cooler air well up into northern Australia, leading to below-average temperatures for much of the country.
In Queensland, sunshine will return for many inland areas, although coastal regions may see a few clouds and slightly cooler conditions compared to yesterday. Temperatures along the coast will still be warm, in the mid to high 20s, rising to the low to mid 30s in the north. Southern and western areas will be much cooler with southerly winds. A lovely day is expected in southeast Queensland, with Brisbane forecast to be sunny and 25°C.
In New South Wales and the ACT, heavy rainfall is expected from the Hunter through Sydney and into the Illawarra area, with Severe Weather Warnings in place for heavy rain. Strong and gusty winds are likely around the northern and Central Tablelands. The low will move away during the day, but windy and showery conditions will linger along the coast. Inland areas will start to dry out. Temperatures will be cool, ranging from the mid to high teens inland and high teens along the coast. Sydney will be showery and windy with a high of 18°C, and Canberra can expect a few showers and 15°C.
Victoria will see lingering showers and rain in the east, with southerly winds bringing occasional showers along coastal and mountainous areas. These showers will be hit-and-miss, while northern Victoria will remain mostly dry. It will be a cool day with temperatures in the low to mid teens. Melbourne is expecting a few passing showers and a high of 15°C.
In Tasmania, the south will be cool while the north and east will be milder. Showers are expected on the west coast, with temperatures in the low teens in the south and mid to high teens in the north and east. Hobart will be partly cloudy with a top of 15°C.
South Australia will be under the influence of high pressure after recent wet and stormy days. Showers will continue in southern parts, though they will be scattered and mostly dry inland. Temperatures will range from the mid to high teens in the south to around 20°C in the north. Adelaide will see a few showers and a high of 16°C.
In Western Australia, high pressure will bring dry, mild, and sunny weather across the state. Temperatures will be in the low 20s in the south, mid-20s along the coast, and could reach into the 30s in the north. Perth will enjoy a beautiful sunny day with a high of 23°C.
Across the Northern Territory, it will be cool in the south with temperatures in the low 20s after a cold start. Northern areas will remain warm, with highs in the mid to high 30s. There's a chance of an afternoon or evening shower or storm inland, particularly in the Top End and parts of the Kimberley. Darwin can expect a warm day with a high of 34°C and a slight chance of an inland shower or storm.
