Siege incident, Doolandella

A 41-year-old man has been fatally shot by police during a siege situation at a residence in Doolandella this morning.

Police were advised of a disturbance at the Cassowary Street house around 5.30am.

It was ascertained that a 41-year-old man was armed with a samurai sword with two women and four children, known to the man, inside the home.

Police negotiated with the man and subsequently, the woman and children were released from the home.

Around 7.45am, the man confronted officers with the sword outside the residence and an officer discharged his firearm, wounding the man.

Paramedics immediately treated the man, however, he was declared deceased at 8.15am.

The Ethical Standards Command has commenced a critical incident investigation into the police response with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
