Single use plastic policy to be guided by State Government policy

- City of Ballarat Director of Infrastructure and Environment Terry Demeo

The City of Ballarat is waiting for the State Government to finalise its single use plastic policy which would help guide any local government version.

However, the City of Ballarat has already been pro-active in this space by discouraging the use of single use plastic, providing cloth bags and introducing extensive recycling and sustainability education at the 2019 Begonia Festival.

Council is being pro-active in this space by using the 2019 Begonia Festival to start community plastic reduction education as we wait for the State Government to develop the regulatory framework around single use plastic.

Council is committed to being a leader in the recycling space, which has been demonstrated recently in Council's commitment to the Interim Materials Recovery Facility and the fact that, unlike many Victorian municipalities, we have not sent any recycling picked up from kerbside to landfill.
