Six Charged in Operation Soteria Surge in New England

Police have charged six people following a three-day high-visibility operation focused on preventing and disrupting crime in the state's northwest.

Between Thursday 4 December 2025 and Saturday 6 December 2025, officers attached to New England Police District – assisted by officers attached to Operation Soteria, Western Region Operations Support Group, Youth Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and the Dog Unit – saturated the Moree area under Operation Soteria to target and reduce crime.

As a result of the operation, police arrested and charged six people with a combined 24 offences.

Police also conducted 19 bail compliance and apprehended domestic violence checks.

Traffic and Highway Patrol Command performed 125 random breath tests and issued 58 traffic and speeding infringements.

Youth Command officers also engaged with about 60 young people during community connection events.

Incidents of note:

• About 1pm on Thursday (4 December 2025), a 38-year-old man was arrested at a home on Brand Street, Moree, in relation to six outstanding warrants issued by Queensland Police for serious assault and robbery related offences. He was taken to Moree Police Station and charged with apprehension on warrant issued in another state. The man is due to appear at Moree Local Court tomorrow (Monday 8 December 2025) where Queensland Police are expected to apply for an extradition order.

• About 12.45am on Friday (5 December 2025), police responded to reports of an attempted break in at home on Boston Street, Moree. A short time later, officers arrested three boys – two aged 15 and one aged 14 – hiding in nearby bushland. They were taken to Moree Police Station, where they were charged with enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, enter inclosed land not prescribed premises without lawful excuse and breach of bail. All three were refused bail to appear at a children's court that same day (Friday 5 December 2025). One of the 15-year-boys was refused bail to appear at a children's court on Thursday 18 December 2025. The other two were granted conditional bail to appear at a children's court on Thursday 22 January 2026.

• About 12.15am yesterday (6 December 2025), officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Bulluss Drive, Moree, due to its manner of driving. When the vehicle failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. The vehicle crashed into the front of a home on Tycannah Street where the 43-year-old male driver ran from the vehicle. He was arrested after being located hiding in the front yard of a house on the street. The man was subjected to a breath test which allegedly returned a positive result. He was arrested and taken to Moree Police Station where a subsequent breath anaylsis returned an alleged positive reading of 0.067. Inquiries also established that he was the holder of a disquailified licence until 2030. He was charged with police pursuit - not stop - drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, not give particulars to owner of damaged property and drive with low range PCA. The Moree man was refused bail to appear at Moree Local Court tomorrow (Monday 8 December 2025).
