Six injured in hot air balloon crash near Cessnock, NSW

Six people have been injured, two seriously, after a hot air balloon crash this morning near Cessnock, NSW Police say.

Just after 7am (Saturday 13 January 2018), emergency services were called to Camp Road, Greta, about 21km from Cessnock, after a hot air balloon, with 15 people on board, attempted to land but struck a bush.

Initial inquiries suggest the hot air balloon landed heavily injuring six people. Four people received minor injuries and didn’t require hospitalisation.

A 20-year-old woman was treated for suspected spinal injuries, while an 80-year-old woman was treated for multiple fractures. Both women were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition.


The Australian Transport Safety Bureau have been notified and will commence an investigation.
