Skills Academy To Support Uplift In Public Sector Skills

  • Building of 120 training courses tailored to the WA public sector starts this week
  • The Skills Academy is a $20 million investment by the Cook Government supporting an unprecedented uplift in foundational public sector skills and capability
  • Courses will initially support staff employed under the Public Sector CSA Agreement

Work on a comprehensive suite of courses tailored to the Western Australian public sector and designed to strengthen skills and capability will get underway this week.

The Skills Academy will provide foundational training courses in the core skills needed by WA's public servants, and will help support the Cook Government's vision for Western Australia to remain the strongest economy in the nation, and focus on the key priorities of jobs, health and housing.

Courses will focus on areas such as financial management and budgeting, procurement, contract management, integrity, policy development, digital and data, workforce planning, change management and customer service.

The Skills Academy is being led and managed by the Public Sector Commission. KPMG Australia Technology Solutions Pty Limited has been contracted as the learning services provider to support the Commission deliver this initiative.

KPMG has a strong track record of delivering managed learning services at scale. The award of the contract follows an open and competitive tender process.

The initial tranche of courses is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2026.

The Cook Government invested $20 million to establish The Skills Academy, after which costs will be met through existing training budgets of the 56 participating agencies.
