Skills And Innovation Key To Lifting Productivity

Universities Australia supports the Treasurer's productivity push today at the National Press Club.

"Skills and research are critical to lifting productivity," Universities Australia Chief Executive Officer Luke Sheehy said.

"Both the Prime Minister and the Treasurer have recognised this, and the need to invest in these areas to support economic growth and development, which we welcome.

"Australia's universities are an essential ingredient, producing the pipeline of highly skilled workers and driving the innovation that makes our economy larger and more prosperous.

"We're committed to working constructively with government and business on ways to ensure Australians can get the skills they want for the jobs Australia needs and to drive innovation through research.

"Lifting productivity is one of the biggest challenges facing our nation and it's going to take a big national effort to turn it around. Australia's universities are up to the task."
