Skip bins for campers waste

The warmer weather is finally approaching, meaning Campaspe Shire will soon be abuzz with carloads of visitors ready to explore our summer playground.

Campaspe Shire Council Director Infrastructure Kate Lemon said Council would be continuing with the annual camper's waste skip bin installations.

"Each year, Council places skip bins in high activity areas for, traditionally, the campers in our area.

"Despite Parks Victoria having most bushland closed to camping following the floods, this won't change the extraordinary number of visitors we get. So, we need to be prepared.

"While we can't wait to welcome all visitors to our area, the rubbish they leave behind is assuredly unwelcome."

Ms Lemon reiterated that the skips were only to be used by visitors to the area, not for residential waste.

"The skips will be closely monitored for any misuse. Our contractors will be regularly emptying these bins, however, if the skip bin is full, we ask you – please do not place rubbish on the ground next to the bin.

"This becomes a hazard. Once you place rubbish on the ground, even if it's bagged, there is a possibility that wildlife, or even a child, could access this rubbish and potentially hurt themselves.

"Not to mention our contractors who would then have to handle this rubbish. Instead, take the rubbish to a Resource Recovery Centre."

The skip bins will be placed at Echuca East Boat Ramp, Victoria Park, Torrumbarry Roadhouse and Gunbower Recreation Reserve from Wednesday, 21 December to Wednesday, 1 February.

Locals and visitors can also access Council's Resource Recovery Centres to dispose of various waste. Resource Recovery Centre locations and opening hours can be found on Council's website.
