Yarra Ranges Crime Investigation Unit detectives are investigating a burglary at a Lilydale school earlier this month.
It is understood an unknown number of people broke into the school sometime between 2pm on 18 May and 1pm on 20 May.
The offenders stole five snakes, three water dragons and a fish tank.
The four golden tree snakes, one green tree snake, three eastern dragons hold a commercial value.
