Smashing Upgrade For Koo Wee Rup Tennis Club

The Koo Wee Rup Tennis Club will be serving up tennis for the whole community thanks to a $600,000 funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.

Minister for Sport John Eren today announced that the Cochranes Park club will soon double its number of courts thanks to the Labor Government’s Community Support Fund.

Due to its ageing building and substandard court surfaces, the Koo Wee Rup Tennis Club has been in decline to the point that competition matches couldn’t be played at the club.

This funding will bring a new generation of locals to the sport by upgrading the surface of two existing courts, constructing two new courts with lighting, upgrading the kitchenette, and adding a new change facility and accessible amenities.

The project will also include an upgrade to the existing community meeting room housed in the neighbouring Koo Wee Rup Swimming Pool, to provide the tennis club a home and meeting room.

Victorian sports clubs are the lifeblood of our towns, and they deserve modern, accessible, and safe facilities.

The Labor Government is delivering through its Community Support Fund which is developing new sport and active recreation facilities and rejuvenating tired grounds and ageing club rooms across Victoria.

It’s part of our commitment to promoting sports and active recreation and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

Across Victoria we’ve invested more than $420 million in community sport and recreation facilities to get more people moving and help bring communities together.

It’s backed by almost half a billion dollars in the Victorian Budget 2018/19 to ensure sport and active recreation continue to be accessible to everyone regardless of gender or location.

Mr Eren acknowledged Cardinia Shire Council for their commitment to the project.

As stated by Minister for Sport John Eren

"Congratulations to both Koo Wee Rup Tennis Club and Cardinia Shire Council – this boost will go a long way to supporting the growing number of people keen to get involved in local sport and recreation."

"This announcement is another great example of how we’re making sport and recreation more accessible, welcoming and inclusive for all Victorians."

As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Daniel Mulino

"This $600,000 in funding will double the number of tennis courts at Koo Wee Rup which will allow the club to once again play competition tennis – this is a great announcement for the local community"

"We’re giving local communities the facilities they need so more locals can play the sports they love."
