Sod turned on site of new $10 million police station at Jindabyne

The first sod has been turned on the new site for the $10 million Jindabyne Police Station in the state's Monaro Region.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Police Paul Toole joined NSW Police Force Acting Deputy Commissioner, Regional NSW Field Operations, Joe Cassar, and Monaro Police District Commander, Superintendent John Klepczarek, to mark the commencement of construction work on the new police station.

The new station will replace the current Jindabyne Police Station on Thredbo Terrace, and will consist of four buildings: police station, police accommodation, boat shelter, and garage for police vehicles and snowmobiles.

The Deputy Premier said the new purpose-designed station will be funded through the Government's 2019 election commitment to police property capital works.

"This station will help our police officers to drive down crime in the area and continue keeping the community safe," Mr Toole said.

Acting Deputy Commissioner for Regional NSW Field Operations Joe Cassar, said regional communities need to be equipped with policing facilities to match their metropolitan counterparts.

"This new station will ensure residents of and visitors to Jindabyne and surrounding towns have the same access to officers and services in times of need, and continue to support police officers to prevent, disrupt and respond to crime in the local area," Acting Deputy Commissioner Cassar said.

"The redeveloped station will also provide modern accommodation for additional officers and specialists units required through during busy periods.

"It will significantly enhance the police response and operational efficiency to the local community, particularly during the peak tourism months of winter and summer."

Monaro Police District Commander, Superintendent John Klepczarek, said Jindabyne is a recreational hub of NSW in Winter with the snowfields, but also for hikers and nature-lovers in the warmer months.

"The community can be assured that the new police station in Jindabyne will be equipped with new technology and facilities to assist officers to better service their community," Supt Klepczarek said.

The new station will accommodate approximately 20 staff and will include:

  • Public front counter and interview rooms
  • General duty and duty Rooms
  • Modern charge room and custody area
  • Meeting/conference rooms
  • Storage area for exhibits/investigation storage
  • Meal room, lockers and amenities
  • Vehicle parking for operational vehicles
  • Secure storage for snow vehicles and equipment
  • Police staff accommodation to include 10 rooms in a separate building

Design of the new station is currently underway, with building to commence next month and scheduled for completion in mid-2023.
