Somalia Census Tablet Handover Ceremony

Ahead of the upcoming Population and Housing Census, the Somalia National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS) held a hybrid ceremony on 15 January for the official handover of 1,200 tablets provided by the Government of Egypt, with a facilitation from ESCWA.

The event highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and partnerships in strengthening national statistical systems and advancing Somalia's development priorities. By combining technical assistance with capacity building, the initiative reflects a shared commitment to sustainable results that promote evidence-based policymaking.

The forthcoming census is highly significant, as Somalia has not conducted a full population and housing census since 1975. It will provide crucial data to support reconstruction, inclusive development, and long-term policy planning.
