COVID Cases in SA
There have been 10,754 new cases of COVID-19 reported in South Australia in the past week.
As of 11:59pm Thursday 15 December, 187 people with COVID-19 in hospital, including ten in ICU and two ventilated.
Of those hospitalised, 149 people had received three or more vaccine doses, 27 people were either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated and 11 had an unknown vaccination status.
There were 21 COVID-19 deaths notified in the past week, the ages range from people in their 50s to 90s, including two deaths in people aged under 70 years. Deaths may not have occurred in the week in which they were reported.

Variants
The latest genome sampling has found 60% of samples analysed were BA.5 and related variants (of which 48% is B.Q.1), 26% were BA.2 and related variants (of which 85% is BA.2.75 and 1% is XBB), and one BA.4 related variant were detected.
COVID testing
In the past week, 25,087 people received a PCR test in South Australia, a 3% increase on the previous week. Of the test results returned, 5,171 PCR tests were positive, 5,583 positive Rapid Antigen Test results were reported.
Testing changes
Following a Federal Government announcement to extend some funding arrangements for state COVID-19 PCR testing sites, some South Australian non-referral PCR testing sites are being extended until at least the end of January.
The dedicated sites at Bedford Park, Walkley Heights, Port Adelaide (drive-through and walk-in), and Frome Road (walk-in) - as well as the dedicated PCR testing sites in regional areas, will remain open past 8 January 2023.
These sites will have the ability to scale up and down in response to demand, and SA's testing capability will be reviewed again at the end of January. To find a testing clinic near you, visit www.sahealth.sa.gov.au/covidtesting
Vaccination update
Currently 96.5% of eligible South Australians aged 12+ have received their first dose of the vaccine and 94.6% have received their second dose. Boosters have been administered to 75.6% of eligible South Australians and 71.7% of South Australians aged 16+.
