South Coast Fisherman Found Following Multi-Agency Search

A missing spear fisherman has been located following a multi-agency search on the South Coast.

About 3.15pm yesterday (Saturday 17 June 2023), emergency services were called to Lennards Island, near Merimbula, following reports a 64-year-old spear fisherman had failed to return to shore after entering the water.

Officers attached to Marine Area Command coordinated a search of the area yesterday, assisted by South Coast Police District, NSW Ambulance, Marine Rescue, and NSW Surf Live Saving commenced a search of the area.

The search was suspended about 5.30pm yesterday due to poor light; however, resumed about 8am today (Sunday 18 June 2023) around Lennards Island and in water surrounding the Beowa National Park.

Following inquires the man was located about 9.15am today, on the coast within the Beowa National Park.

He was transported by boat to Snug Cove, Eden, where he was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics. The man was uninjured.
