South Coast Police Seek Tips on Suspicious Bushfire

South Coast police are appealing for information following a suspicious bushfire on the South Coast earlier today.

About 11.00am on Saturday 8 November 2025, emergency services were called to the Wandandian Creek picnic area, near Sussex Inlet, following reports of a bushfire in dense bushland on the outskirts of the Basin View community.

An area of bushland was burnt and before the blaze was extinguished by the NSW Rural Fire Service.

No injuries were reported.

Officers attached to South Coast Police District are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire and are treating the blaze as suspicious, on a day where the Fire Danger rating was rated as high.

As investigations continue, police have released images of a man who might be able to assist with inquiries.

The man is described as being Caucasian in appearance, approximately 185-190cm tall, medium build, with short dark hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and tracksuit pants and brown boots.

He was seen riding a blue Yamaha dirt bike, wearing a black motorbike helmet and fluoro yellow goggles in the Basin View area around 11:30am.

Investigations in relation to this suspicious bushfire are continuing.
