Speeding Drug-driver Couldn't Hold On In Balaclava

Moorabbin Highway Patrol officers thought they had heard it all before an alleged speeding driver declared he was busting for a wee and didn't realise what the speed limit was.

Police caught sight of a white Volkswagen driving at speed on Hotham Street in Balaclava about 11.30pm.

The Volkswagen was clocked travelling at an alleged speed of 81km/h in a 40km/h zone.

Officers intercepted the VW and it is alleged the driver, a 38-year-old St Kilda East man, told police he was speeding due to the fact he needed "a wee".

The man allegedly produced an oral fluid test positive for cannabis.

He was issued penalty infringement notices in relation to driving while under the influence of cannabis, speeding and using a mobile phone while driving.

The fines amounted to $1985 and the driver's licence will be suspended for at least six months.
