Speedster caught out in school zone

Moorabbin Highway Patrol members stopped a driver in his tracks after he was nabbed speeding through a Cheltenham school zone this morning (23 May).

Police detected a 1990 Toyota Cressida allegedly travelling at 72km/h in a 40km/h zone near a school on Charman Road about 9am.

Officers intercepted the vehicle, with the driver returning a positive preliminary breath test.

He allegedly refused to accompany police back to the station for an evidentiary breath test and was subsequently arrested.

The 62-year-old Beaumont man is expected to be charged on summons with speeding, fail to accompany police for a breath test, unlicensed driving and drunk in a public place.

His car was also impounded at a cost of $878.50.
