New park will support the area's growing mining and aquaculture sectors

A strong industrial sector helps to foster new business opportunities, create good paying jobs, spur economic growth and build vibrant communities.
That is why the Town of St. Lawrence is developing an industrial park to support the region's growing mining and aquaculture sectors. The new park will provide the Town with the necessary infrastructure to attract new businesses and better position itself to respond to the increased demand for commercial space with the reactivation of the St. Lawrence fluorspar mine and development of the Grieg NL aquaculture project in Placentia Bay.
Beginning this spring, work on the industrial park will involve the development of eight fully serviced lots. The initiative is part of the Town's strategic plan to increase community capacity and develop infrastructure to foster business development, create partnership opportunities and support long-term economic growth in the region.
The Government of Canada is providing a non-repayable contribution of $949,947 and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is contributing $365,364 for this project.
Churence Rogers, Member of Parliament for Bonavista–Burin–Trinity, on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), along with the Honourable Carol Anne Haley, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister responsible for the Status of Women and MHA for Burin–Grand Bank, on behalf of the Honourable Christopher Mitchelmore, Newfoundland and Labrador Minister of Tourism, Culture, Industry and Innovation (TCII), made the announcement today.

Support for this project is one way the Government of Canada is working to achieve its Atlantic Growth Strategy outcome of long-term economic prosperity in the region.

The Innovative Communities Fund focuses on investments that lead to long-term employment and economic capacity building in Atlantic Canadian communities.

Eligible recipients include non-commercial/not-for-profit organizations such as local development associations, municipalities and their agencies, business or technology institutes, industry/sector associations, economic development associations, local co-operatives, universities and educational institutions.
