Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding an alleged stabbing which occurred in Narre Warren South on Friday evening.
Investigators have been told a man and a woman were sitting in a car on The Esplanade about 10.40pm.
Officers have been told a man known to the couple approached the vehicle and started assaulting the male driver.
The victim managed to drive off but was involved in a collision with another car at the intersection of Grices Road and Glassscocks Road, Cranbourne North.
The male victim was taken to hospital with life threatening injuries and is believed to have been stabbed.
No one else was seriously injured in the collision.
Police attended a nearby address and have taken a man into custody and he is currently assisting police with their enquires.
