Stabbing – Merrylands

Police are appealing for assistance from the public after a man was stabbed in an apparent random attack in Merrylands a short time ago.

A 44-year-old man was standing in Railway Terrace about 3.50pm (Friday 9 July 2021) when he was approached by another man and stabbed several times. The man then ran away, while the injured man was assisted by a passer-by.

Officers from Cumberland Police Area Command have established a crime scene and are now appealing for anyone who saw the incident, or who may have information.

They wish to speak with a man described as Maori/Pacific Islander appearance, short black hair, short beard, a tattoo on right lower arm, and at the time was wearing long black pants and black shoes.

Police advise anyone who sees the man not to approach him but to call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

The injured man has been taken to Westmead Hospital where he’s reported to be in a serious condition.
