As at 31 August, Police has laid 140 charges before the Courts and issued 918 notices under the new stalking and harassment legislation since it came into effect on 26 May 2026.
Police is using the legislation to intervene, hold offenders to account, and help protect people experiencing stalking and harassment.
"It has been encouraging to see the law being used to protect victims in our communities and hold offenders to account," says Inspector Natasha Allan, Acting Director of Prevention.
"Stalking and harassment can have a significant impact on a person's safety, wellbeing, and ability to go about their daily life.
"We want people affected by stalking and harassment to know that they will be listened to, taken seriously, and supported. We encourage anyone experiencing this behaviour to report it to Police.
"Those who engage in stalking and harassment should expect Police action. This behaviour is unacceptable and can have serious consequences for victims and their families."
