A national bowls championships will be held in Sydney for the first time in 45 years when more than 300 participants meet at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope this month.
The Australian Indoor Bias Bowls National Championships will open on Tuesday 25 August as players, officials and spectators from across the country enjoy a week of top competition.
Blacktown City Mayor Brad Bunting welcomed the bowls community to the heart of Western Sydney.
"We encourage our community to be active and bowls is a great participation sport for people of all ages to help have a healthy lifestyle," he said.
"Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope is a popular venue for many sports and I am delighted our bowling friends have chosen it to host this major competition."
Australian Indoor Bias Bowls President Anthony Van Lierop is looking forward to the event.
"The national championships is our biggest event of the year and I thank Blacktown City Council for hosting us at Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope," he said.
"People of all ages and abilities enjoy our sport and I encourage everyone to come along and learn about our great game."
Players will compete in singles, pairs and team formats through to Saturday 29 August.
This is the first time the national championships have been held in Blacktown City.
