State of Origin menu showcases local WA produce

  • State of Origin Game II will be held at Optus Stadium on Sunday June 26
  • Local producers and suppliers will be showcased in the special event menu
  • Rugby league fans from across the country can sample some of the finest local produce from WA businesses
  • Fresh produce from Western Australian businesses will feature in a specially created State of Origin menu, as Queensland takes on New South Wales at this weekend's match to be held at Optus Stadium.

Fans attending the match will be able to enjoy locally produced food with a unique Eastern States twist.

Maroons fans can enjoy a rum pork burger featuring pork belly burnt ends with rum glaze, onion rings and tropical coleslaw with a gourmet burger bun, and QLD Thai yellow curry wings, giving a nod to far north QLD's links to South-East Asian tropical cuisine.

For Blues fans, there is a specially designed Blues smoked brisket roll featuring bourbon infused brisket with gruyere cheese and sweet-and-sour pickle in a classic roll and barbeque sticky wings.

Both special burgers will be served on bread produced at The Mill Bakery in Bibra Lake and delivered fresh on game day. About 6,000 burgers are expected to be served during the event, which is expected to attract more than 55,000 fans.

The Mill Bakery has been supplying Optus Stadium with freshly baked bread each event day since the venue opened. Based in Bibra Lake, the small family-owned business has supplied more than 2.5 million baked items to the stadium.

WA bakery Mrs Mac's will supply 8,000 pies and pastries for the event, and local pizza makers Cheeky Brothers will deliver more than 2,000 pizzas to the stadium for the event.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman:

"This delicious food will help sustain hungry fans as they watch the fantastic State of Origin match this weekend.

"I am pleased to hear that local suppliers will be benefiting from this event, which will bring in thousands of interstate visitors."
