Statement From Attorney-General 15 August

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice and Minister for Integrity The Honourable Deb Frecklington

Following today's decision, I am now looking at my options to make an appeal to the High Court.

This offence occurred under Labor's weak laws and is an unacceptable outcome caused by Labor's weak laws that were out of step with community expectations.

It is a very real and very sad example of why minimum mandatory life in prison for murder under our Adult Crime, Adult Time laws needed to be delivered, and they have been.

The murder of Emma Lovell rocked the State and Queenslanders made it very clear enough is enough and change needed to occur.

The community and Emma's family will be devastated by this outcome and our thoughts are with them on another very difficult day they should never have had to endure.

This is exactly why our first act in Government was to change the laws and deliver Adult Crime, Adult Time.

Under our laws this murderer would have been sentenced to life in prison.
