Queenslanders witnessed extraordinary disarray and division within the Labor Party in Parliament last night as the Crisafulli Government delivered strong and decisive laws to make Queensland safer.
Labor voted against the Bill - which was in response to the Bondi Beach terrorist attack - making it clear that Steven Miles' leadership, and his party, are in complete chaos after weeks of misleading Queenslanders about their position.
The Labor party sided with terrorists and criminals over Queenslanders, by voting against:
- stronger laws to lock up terrorists planning a terror attack.
- stronger laws to impose tougher penalties for stealing guns.
- stronger laws creating an offence for drive-by shootings.
- stronger laws creating an offence preparing to commit a mass casualty attack.
- stronger laws requiring gun owners to be Australian citizens.
These reforms are making Queensland safer so all Queenslanders can live, worship, and gather safely.
In the days following the Bondi Beach terrorist attack, Steven Miles demanded the Crisafulli Government recall Queensland Parliament to rush through new laws, without them going to through the Committee Process.
The Crisafulli Government worked calmly and methodically to ensure the legislation was properly scrutinised through the Parliamentary Committee Process for two weeks, and ensured three days of Parliamentary debate.
Labor's claim that they were not provided time to view the Bill is simply an attempt to distract from the chaos within their caucus, and the fact Steven Miles' leadership is hanging by a thread.
The Crisafulli Government has drawn a clear line in the sand to keep guns out of the hands of terrorists and criminals and make Queensland safer.
