Statement From Deputy Premier 13 March

Deputy Premier, Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning and Minister for Industrial Relations The Honourable Jarrod Bleijie

I would like to acknowledge the comments from Federal Minister for Energy Chris Bowen this morning who admitted Queenslanders were right.

Queenslanders were standing up – we listened – and represented their concerns to the Commonwealth.

We sounded the alarm after hearing stories from Queenslanders about how they couldn't turn on their tractors to make a living or fill up their cars because whole towns were running out of fuel.

The Federal Government said we were fearmongering and denied there was an issue.

Today, we welcome the major backdown and shift in rhetoric that proves Queenslanders got it right.

After a decade of a Queensland Labor Government who would just bow down to Canberra, we will never take a backward step when it comes to standing up for Queenslanders and making sure their legitimate concerns are being heard.

I am now calling on the Federal Government to release the details of their future plan to ensure ongoing fuel security for all of Queensland.
