Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has paid tribute to the Labor Member for Stretton, Duncan Pegg, who has announced his impending retirement from parliament due to ill health.

In a heartfelt speech, Duncan spoke of the love and support of his family, his community and his local legacy including a number of improvements to local schools and safer roads.

"As Duncan put it, he is among 30,000 Queenslanders diagnosed with cancer each year," the Premier said.

Mr Pegg has served as Member for Stretton since 2015 and as Chair of the Tourism Development and Environment Committee.

The Premier praised Duncan for his devotion to his community, his dedication to education and for making Queensland all the better for his service.
