Statement of Condolences

Australian Network on Disability (AND) is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Leonie Jackson on 17th January 2021. Leonie was the Executive Manager, Advocacy and Strategic Partnerships at the Deaf Society and played an active role in the AND Network.

Leonie was a 'fellow traveller', committed to breaking down the barriers faced by the Deaf community in fulling their potential and accessing education, employment and all aspects of the community.

She was a pioneer in Deaf education and instrumental in establishing live captioning in education and business. Her determination, and passion to support Deaf people achieve their goals and ambition, has led the way to a more accessible and inclusive community for so many people. We will be forever grateful for her tireless contributions, particularly through her work with Ai Media and Deaf Society.

Leonie was a great friend, leader and colleague to many in our Network. Our deepest sympathies are with her family and friends during this time.
