Statement on Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig

On behalf of the Government and people of Australia we offer our deepest condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of South Australian Police Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, killed last night in the line of duty.

Our thoughts are also with Sergeant Michael Hutchinson, who we hope has a swift recovery, Constable Rebekah Cass, and all of the South Australian Police Force.

Today all Australians stand with police officers across Australia grieving the loss of one of their own.

Every day police officers show incredible bravery and sacrifice, facing dangers to protect our communities.

Tragically, today we have learnt that bravery and sacrifice will see yet another name added to the 823 names already added to the National Police Memorial wall in Canberra.

Today, and every day, we pay tribute to each and every one of the police officers who serve us and protect us.

Together, we grieve the loss of Brevet Sergeant Doig across Australia. May he rest in peace.
