Today the Australian Greens mourn those killed three years ago as well as the hundreds of thousands of people who have been killed in the years that followed. The grief and the toll of violence will be felt by the Jewish community and people across Australia today.
The Greens three years ago, and still today, condemn the attacks on October 7. This position is rooted in the Greens' commitment to peace and non-violence.
These same values also mean the Greens condemn the ongoing genocide that is occurring in Palestine and ethnic cleansing in the West Bank.
There must be an enduring peace that is grounded in justice. This cannot occur if Australia and countries like it continue to fuel the violence through the export of weapons and weapon parts to the State of Israel. Until this ends, the Australian Government is implicated in this genocide through the two-way arms trade and refusal to implement broad sanctions upon the Netanyahu Government.
All people in Australia should feel safe, protected and free to grieve for their loss. All violence is connected and reinforcing. Only through peace can we begin to heal.
