Statement regarding Victoria cases 27 May

Following the announcement of multiple cases of COVID-19 in Victoria, Queensland is declaring all of Victoria a hotspot from 1am, Friday 28 May 2021.

Anyone who has been in Victoria in the last 14 days will not be allowed to enter Queensland unless they are a returning Queensland resident, except for a limited range of people who can enter for an essential purpose.

Anyone who is allowed to enter Queensland will be required to go into 14 days mandatory hotel quarantine in Brisbane. Anyone who arrives in Queensland where there are no quarantine hotels, may be moved to a location where there is quarantine hotel space available.

If people usually live in Queensland, they will be directed to hotel quarantine in either Brisbane or Cairns.

Anyone who has arrived in Queensland from Victoria since 1am today 27 May 2021 and before 1am 28 May 2021 must follow the same lockdown requirements currently in place in Victoria. You may only leave your place of isolation for the below essential reasons. They are:

  • to get essential goods or services – such as groceries, pet food, medical or necessary supplies
  • for medical or health care, including fulfilling carer responsibilities and to get a COVID-19 test – including a COVID vaccine IF you already have an appointment booked and have no symptoms. You must let the clinic know you have been in Victoria in the last 14 days.
  • for an end of life visit if an exemption has been granted by the Chief Health Officer and allowed by the facility you are attending
  • to avoid injury or illness or to escape a risk of harm – for example, escaping risk of harm related to domestic and family violence or accessing support from a domestic and family violence support service
  • to exercise outdoors alone or with someone from your household
  • for essential work, with an exemption from the Chief Health Officer.

Anyone who has arrived in Queensland before 1am Friday 28 May 2021, and has been in Victoria in the last 14 days, must continue to monitor their symptoms and come forward and get tested if they experience any symptoms, no matter how mild, then isolate until they receive a negative result

From 1am Thursday 27 May – everyone arriving from Victoria is required to complete a border pass. Anyone that has been in Whittlesea or a venue of concern will be required to go into hotel quarantine.

Queenslanders should reconsider their need to travel to Victoria.

Reminder for anyone currently in Queensland who has been in any of the contact tracing locations to complete the contact tracing form.
