Station Pier Reopens To Public In Time For Summer

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government has reopened the iconic Station Pier to the public for the first time since 2020 following the completion of maintenance activities.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne announced that the maintenance program will ensure the continued operation of the shipping and cruise ship facility for years to come, supporting the arrival of around 50,000 passengers and crew annually.

To allow for the ongoing maintenance, Station Pier will remain open to the public on weekends during daylight hours, while works continue at other times to keep the pier functioning for the cruise industry.

Local community, tourists and recreational fishers will be able to take a walk or cast a line off the pier on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays throughout summer, when there are no operating ships alongside.

Works on this iconic heritage cruise shipping facility included the refurbishment of the Pier's Gatehouse, structural pylons, electrical systems, corrosion protection and wharf deck.

Pedestrian access will be limited to the central access way to the southern end of the Pier. There will be an accessible entry point for vehicles at the southern end of the pier.

The Labor Government are working across relevant Department and Agencies to plan for Station Pier's future, to preserve what makes the pier iconic while meeting the growing cruise shipping industry's needs.

The pier has active shipping berths, two terminal buildings, a gatehouse, a former railway station building, and a small kiosk.

As stated by Minister for Roads and Road Safety Melissa Horne

"These vital works will come as welcome news for Victorians, particularly the community and recreational fishers eager to enjoy what the pier has to offer."

As stated by Member for Albert Park Nina Taylor

"Station Pier is a great asset for the local community and recreational fishers - attracting locals and tourists to this beautiful part of Victoria."
